How to Ask
Email privacy@homecheck.live from the address on your account, with “Account deletion” in the subject. Tell us nothing more than that you want the account closed — we do not need a reason and will not ask for one.
You can also delete your account from inside the app, under Account → Delete account. That route is immediate.
Deletion is permanent. There is no grace period, no recycle bin, and no way for us to restore an account afterwards. If you want copies of your reports, export them before you ask.
What We Destroy
These are destroyed irreversibly and cannot be recovered by you, by us, or by anyone you have shared a property with.
| What | What happens to it |
|---|---|
| Your email address | Scrambled to an internal value that cannot receive mail. This also releases your real address, so you can sign up again later with a clean, unconnected account. |
| Your password | Removed entirely. |
| Apple and Google sign-in | The links to those accounts are removed, and where you signed in with Apple we revoke the authorisation with Apple directly. |
| Your profile | Every field is cleared except your first and last name. Section 03 explains why those two remain. |
| Pending invitations | Any invitation you had sent, or that was waiting for you, is cancelled — so freeing your email address cannot hand anyone old access. |
| Properties with no evidential value | A property that is yours alone, with no completed inspection, no other party attached and nothing shared, is deleted outright. The records and the video files themselves are purged. |
| Access to the app and API | Cut off within about a minute, even if a session was already signed in. |
What Survives
The rest of this page is the part most deletion policies leave out. These things are kept on purpose, and they are kept indefinitely.
| What | Why it stays |
|---|---|
| Your first and last name | A report has to say who carried out the inspection and who agreed to it. Stripping the name would leave the other party holding a record that no longer identifies its own parties, which would make it useless as evidence. |
| Your name and email on anything you approved | When you sign off a report, your name and email are sealed into the record's cryptographic signature. Changing them afterwards would break that signature and turn the other party's verified record into an invalid one. These are never altered. |
| Properties with evidential value | A property is kept in full if it has a completed inspection, another party attached to it (including a former tenant), an approval, or a record shared with someone else. Nothing about it is changed. |
| Reports held by the other party | Anyone you shared a record with keeps it, exactly as it was. Your deletion does not remove it from their account. |
| Payment and tax records | Retained for 7 years, as HMRC and Irish Revenue require. |
Why Not Everything
The right to erasure under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR is not absolute. Article 17(3)(e) allows data to be retained where processing is necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims. A deposit dispute, a tribunal submission or an insurance claim is exactly that, and it is the reason the records exist at all.
There is a fairness argument alongside the legal one, and we think it matters more. A property record is only worth something if neither side can remove it. If deleting an account wiped the evidence, the feature would become a way to destroy the other party's case — and the first people to discover that would be the ones acting in bad faith.
Inspection records are kept for the duration of the relevant tenancy plus six years, which matches how long a dispute about one can realistically run. The full schedule is in our Privacy Notice.
If You Run an Organisation
If you are the owner of an organisation or agency account, we cannot delete your personal account while you still hold that role — it would leave the organisation's properties without an owner and lock your colleagues out of their own portfolio.
Transfer ownership to another member first, or delete the organisation, and then request deletion of your own account. Both options are available to you, and we will walk you through either if you ask.
Your Other Rights
Deletion is one of several rights you hold over your data. You can also request a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to restrict how we use it, object to particular processing, or withdraw consent you have given. Those are set out in full, with how to use them, in section 8 of our Privacy Notice.
If you want your records but not your account, ask for an export before you ask for deletion. Once the account is gone we cannot produce one.
